Construction Law:

Mr. Smith focuses a primary part of his practice in the area of Construction Law, representing developers, owners, general contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. Depending on the size of a project, these parties often need guidance in resolving contract disputes, regulatory approval or enforcement of lien rights. His membership to the Environmental Law Section of the Alabama State Bar is intended to stay on top of regulatory trends in environmental law to aid in advising his construction clients.

Real Estate Law:

As compliment to his construction practice, Mr. Smith practices real estate law in both transactions and litigation. Having been an approved attorney for various national title insurance companies since 1993, and lending institutions since 1996 Mr. Smith handles complex commercial transactions to residential loan closings. Over the years he has also litigated disputes over real property. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Smith was a corporate trust officer with a Miami, Florida bank administering accounts in an aggregate amount exceeding $122 million.

Business Litigation

Throughout his career, Mr. Smith has represented small businesses and lending institutions in litigation over business disputes surrounding creditors / debtors rights, the uniform commercial code contract disputes, and fraud among other things.

Personal Injury Litigation

As part of any litigation practice, Mr. Smith represents clients in personal injury / tort claims. These cases have ranged from dog bites to traffic accidents to wrongful death, all ringing in negligence, wantonness or gross negligence. He has from time to time successfully defended parties in fraud cases.
